Sylvester Oromoni died a natural death – Police confirms

Two autopsies showed Sylvester Oromoni died a natural death. There was no evidence to establish a case of bullying – Lagos Police commissioner, Hakeem Odumosu.

The police boss in a press conference stated that two autopsies carried out in Warri and Lagos state indicated that Dowen college student, Sylvester Oromoni, died a natural death.

He said a post mortem examination was initially carried out on 2nd December, 2021 by a Consultant Pathologist, Dr. Clement Vhriterhire of the Central Hospital, Warri, Delta State and that the result of the first autopsy dated 10th December, 2021 attributed the cause of death to ‘acute lung injury due to chemical intoxication in a background of blunt force trauma’.

However, toxicology screening was recommended and also carried out.

He said the 2nd autopsy carried out in Lagos was done in the presence of the medical doctor from the family of the deceased as well as doctors brought in by parents of the five accused students as well as that of Dowen college.

According to him, the pathologist who carried out the autopsy in Lagos said,

“Our findings at the second autopsy include marked pallor of organs, pneumonia (infection of the lungs), infections of the liver and kidneys as well as the heart. These infections emanated from the ankle infection described earlier in the report. Microscopic sections also confirmed these findings.

Death was caused by Septicaemia following infections of the lungs and kidneys arising from the ankle wound.

No evidence of blunt force trauma in this body.

The findings in the oesophagus and stomach are not compatible with chemical intoxication. Death, in this case, is natural.”

He added that there was no evidence to establish the allegations of bullying and also claims that he was fed with a substance by his seniors as claimed by his family members.

Meanwhile, the Police have warned that it would not fold her hands and allow any act of omission that would threaten the peace in Lagos State, that if there be anyone who is not satisfied with the result of the investigation, the same should go to court as the Coroner Inquest will begin on Saturday, 8th January 2022.
