Obi-Datti support group urges LP to respect court judgment

A Political group, under the aegis of Obi-Datti Movement for Justice and Equity, yesterday, urged the National Working (NWC) of Labour Party (LP) to obey court judgments by enlisting National Assembly candidates of the party in Lagos State.

The movement, in a statement signed by its national convener, Mba Justice Chijioke, said it is unfortunate that some national officers of the party have refused to implement the judgment of the Appeal Court in Abuja, dated November 18, 2022, with suit number: CA/ABJ/CV/1041/2022.Chijioke said the judgment, specifically, ordered Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to enlist National Assembly candidates in Lagos State without further delay. But “some key national executives of the party, led by its National Legal Adviser, Samuel Oyelekan Akingbade, in collaboration with Lagos State executives, led by Okpala Sam Emeka, are desperately making efforts to thwart implementation of the judgment.”Chijioke said the action of the officers is capable of jeopardising the electoral fortunes of the party in the state and appealed to members to prevail on the affected officers not to cause a crisis in LP.The convener said the Electoral Act 2022 frowns at the substitution of candidate names, and no amount of underhand dealings will thwart due process as affirmed by the court. He said: “As faithful party members, we will not fold our hands and allow few elements to destroy the success of our party at the 2023 polls. We expect them to concentrate on getting the names of our party’s candidates in other states enlisted before the 2023 general elections. Rather, they are serving as moles to destroy the growing and populous party in Nigeria.“We are using this medium to admonish them to accept the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Abuja and allow peace to reign in the party. We have had enough distractions. It is time for us to secure overwhelming victory for LP in Lagos State and across Nigeria.”
