Edo State Office of INEC Worry Over Low Collection of PVCs by registered voters.

The Edo State Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission has lamented the slow pace of collection of the over thirty thousand Permanent Voter Cards so far brought to the State.

Although the continuous voter registration is still ongoing Nationwide, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says the number of those coming forward to pick up their permanent voters cards from the over Thirty Thousand so far received by the commission in Edo State since April this year is very low.


The statistics shows that the commission received a total of 30, 979 cards.

A breakdown shows that, 1,402 cards were given to Akoko-Edo Local, out of which only ninety-nine have been collected.
Egor had 1,539 cards, but only 170 collected.


Of the 1,159 PVCs received for Esan Central Local Government, only 52 persons have collected their cards.

In Esan North East, only 67 pvcs have been collected from the 1,610 available.
Esan South East took delivery of 1,929 PVCs out of which 241 have been collected.


Esan West had 812 permanent voter cards and 132 have been given out.


In Igueben, no registered voter has collected the permanent voter cards out of the 1,100 available.


In the remaining five local government areas of Edo North Senatorial District, namely, Etsako East, Etsako West, Etsako Central, Owan East and Owan West, a total of 6,545 cards were received, whereas, only 150 cards have been claimed.


Oredo Local government took delivery of 3,322 PVCs with only 48 given out.


In Orhionmwon out of the 3,219 cards available, 64 have been given out just as the records shows that Uhunwonde received only 601 cards and just four persons have collected.


Speaking on the development, the head voter education in Edo State, Mr Timidi Wariowe said it is discouraging that only 1,348 people have so far come forward to pick their cards out of the total 30,979 received.


Meanwhile applicants have continued to visit INEC office to register as some of them complained of the slow pace.

INEC Says the registration exercise ends on June 30th.
