Alaghodaro: Edo youths to embark on state-wide clean up ahead of Obaseki’s inauguration

Ahead of the inauguration of the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, for a second term in office, youths in the state will on Saturday, November 7, 2020 embark on a state-wide clean-up exercise.

The exercise, which will hold across the 18 local government areas (LGAs) of the state, will see youths take to the streets and major roads to clear debris and other rubble that amassed in the wake of the brigandage that greeted the hijack of the #ENDSARS protests in the state.

In a statement, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, said the exercise is intended to positively engage youths in the cleanup of the state, as necessary logistics would be provided for the exercise.

According to him, “As part of the pre-event activities for the 2020 Alaghodaro Summit, youths in the state would be embarking on a state-wide clean-up exercise. The exercise will hold on Saturday, November 7, 2020 across the 18 local government areas of the state.”

Osagie noted that the exercise would be coordinated by the chairmen of the 18 LGAs, the Ministry of Youths, Edo State Waste Management Board and the Social Investment Office in the state.

Others that would provide leadership for the exercise are the Edo State Skills Development Agency (EdoJobs), the Edo Volunteer Voters Assembly (EVVA) and other youth groups in the state.

“The governor has assured that youths would play key roles in his government. This is one of the ways that we are engaging them to be responsive to the needs of their immediate communities. This exercise would be community-driven. Youths in various communities in the state are expected to participate fully. All the necessary tools required would be provided,” he added.

He assured that the state government would continue to ensure cleanliness, sanity and maintenance of law and order in its quest to return normalcy to major roads and streets in Edo State.
